Sacks on Santa Fe

Quality resale clothing, accessories, home décor, and discounted new items from local stores.

The History of Sacks on Santa Fe

A Store with Purpose, Powered by Heartstrings

Sacks on Santa Fe was established as the second business venture of Heartstrings Community Foundation (HCF®), created to further the foundation’s mission of providing meaningful employment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Located in the heart of Downtown Overland Park at 7916 Santa Fe Drive, this charming boutique opened its doors to the public as more than just a thrift store—it was built to be a training ground for job development, independence, and community engagement.

The concept was simple but powerful: offer high-quality, gently used clothing, accessories, and home décor, while creating a retail environment where Heartstrings employees could gain practical skills in:

  • Laundry and garment care
  • Clothing preparation and presentation
  • Customer service and retail sales
  • Inventory and merchandising

Every item donated to Sacks is laundered, steamed, or ironed before being placed on the floor—ensuring a clean, dignified, and welcoming experience for shoppers. From curating displays to greeting customers, each employee plays a meaningful role in dailyoperations.

Since opening, Sacks on Santa Fe has grown into a beloved neighborhood destination, drawing regular customers who appreciate both the value and the mission behind every purchase.

Quality clothes. Very tidy. The staff is very pleasant. It’s my fav thrift store. To boot, all proceeds are sent to support adults with disabilities. It’s a great atmosphere. The jewelry is great! A million stars.

I always try to support small businesses and share positive feedback, which is why it’s disappointing to have to write this. I’ve been to this store before, and my previous visit was completely different — friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to shop here. I regret not leaving a positive review then, because now I have to share a negative one. When we arrived this time, the employee greeted us warmly and even shared how much she enjoyed her work, which made me feel welcome. Unfortunately, during checkout, the tone changed. While I was simply asking questions — as I was responsible for my own purchase and helping two senior ladies I was with — she became impatient. Her manner felt rushed and rude, and she tossed items like hangers in a way that came across as disrespectful. We were the only customers in the store at the time, so it wasn’t a matter of her being overwhelmed or busy. I understand everyone can have an off day, but kindness and patience make such a difference, especially in a customer-facing role. I truly wish this interaction had ended as positively as it began, and as it has in the past.

They have a good selection of women's clothing, but an extremely small and basic men's section filled with stuff I could find at walmart but at a higher price. I know thrifting is thought to be more of a feminine thing, but as a masculine presenting nonbinary person, I don't want just striped polls and khaki shorts you know?

If you have not made it to this wonderful place in downtown Overland Park, you need to make time to stop by & see what treasures they have in store for you (No pun intended). I can always manage to find some magical item I just can't live without & their prices are so reasonable I tend find a few more items to take home😊. Over the years I have found Hugo Boss, Burberry suits & sport coats (in like new condition) unique cufflinks that I still get compliments on, & recently much to my bargain finding delight about a dozen ties from brand names like Zegna, Ike Behar, Robert Talbott, etc. They have high-end women's clothing, my wife found a beautiful dress for a fundraising event, Crystal decanters, coats, scarves....well you get the idea. I can't say enough great things about this store, the staff is amazing I stopped by every chance I can to say hi to Mary & see what needs to come home with me. But the cherry on top is the proceeds go to help a great cause, The Heartstrings Community Foundation assist adults with developmental disabilities to live meaningful, productive and independent lives employment in the business community. Next time you're the downtown Overland Park area, stop by Sacks on Santa Fe. More than likely you too will find something that wants to come home with you & you're helping a good cause. They are always taking donations, so think of them next time you're cleaning out your coat closet, thinning out your stemware, condensing down that purse or shoe collection, you'll be glad you did.
